Resources For Trumpet Sheet Music
The recommendations on this page are not meant to be an exhaustive list of all good trumpet music.
Method books are recommended for the concepts and skills they cover.
Sheet music is mostly offered as enjoyable music to work with. Music listed generally falls in the easy to intermediate level. The method books are Recommended Selections – from Virtual Sheet Music and Sheet Music Plus
Trumpet Sheet Music – Online Resources
A very broad selection of trumpet sheet music. Most are hard-copy that will be shipped to you (shipping is reasonable, especially if you can bundle multiple purchases in a single order). There’s also a selection of digital downloads that allows you to be playing within a few minutes of ordering.
This place has a ton of digital (downloadable) sheet music, much of it available with audio accompaniment files. They feature mostly classical, holiday, and patriotic music, but many jazz and pop items from the Hal Leanard catalog are also available.
One enticing offer from Virtual Sheet Music is their annual membership, giving you unlimited downloads of VSN titles, and half price on all titles from the Hal Leonard catalog!
Trumpet Method Books
Method books are designed to present trumpet players with exercises to develop various skills. The popularity of different trumpet method books surely varies around the world (and my bias is American), but the list below represents a small set of very well known method books, along with links to purchase.
Arban’s Complete Conservatory Method – While not the best book for beginners, I get enough inquiries about this one to include it. This book covers tonguing (single, double, triple), slurs, technical fingering, and lyrical studies. Almost all intermediate players – and I’d venture ALL advanced – work from this book. After you’ve mastered an intermediate method book (i.e., Rubank), get this one. It’ll last you a lifetime.
Recommended Trumpet Music Titles
This one’s just a beautiful melody. In the theme music in the film, The Mission, the solo was played on – you guessed it – the oboe. But the melody lends itself to lyrical interpretation on any instrument. You can find this on YouTube. Take a listen and you’ll be hooked!
Star Wars music is just plain fun to play! This particular book includes the most popular melodies, including the Main Theme, Leia’s Theme, Cantina Band, The Throne Room, and and ominous Imperial March (Darth Vader’s Theme). Many of the songs reach up to the top line F and high G. If your range is nearly there, this is a fun book to grow with.
