Miss Kansas To Play The Trumpet At Miss America Pageant

Becki Ronen, Miss Kansas and contestant in the upcoming Miss America pageant will be relying on her trumpet to help her win the coveted title.

As reported by The Hutchison News, Miss Ronen is doing the pageant campaign, traveling, and giving clinics teaching music students how to play the trumpet.

“Truly, my passion is music, and the trumpet, and sharing my knowledge is pure joy,” she said, explaining she was a shy child who found her voice in the horn.

Ronen performed her trumpet solo on “Stars in a Velvety Sky” in the Miss Kansas pageant, and hopes the same piece will propel her to victory in Miss America.

Playing the trumpet is not the traditional talent in beauty pageants.  Indeed, perhaps the most well-known pageant trumpet player is that poor girl in the viral You Tube video who’s Star Wars accompaniment was played in the wrong key, leading to an entertaining, yet wrenching performance.

There’s also Alison Balsom, who demonstrates that beauty and trumpet playing ability are not exclusive.  It’s rare that someone can bring glamour and female sex appeal to genuine, trumpet performance.

Hopefully women like Alison Balsom and Becki Ronen can will make young girls take note and realize that playing the trumpet can complement thier elegant, feminine side.

Good luck in Vegas, Becki!
